Italians. They know the secret.

Only a few simple ingredients is really all you need. None of this “pile it on so thick, with tons of sauce, you don’t even know what you’re eating anymore” craziness. They must cringe when they see how we do pizza over here.

This neat little appetizer isn’t anything revolutionary. Just something that I make on occasion, with ingredients and flavors that are meant to be married. Like the Captain & Tennille, Ken & Barbie, Donny & Marie – oh wait…scratch that last one.

Anyway, you catch my drift.

If you’re looking for something to make on Superbowl Sunday other than my Pretzel Rings (or anything resembling food that sticks to your teeth), then I highly recommend these.

They are super easy to assemble and super tasty. Just go ask any Italian.

Mini Mozzarella and Prosciutto Skewers
Makes 36 mini skewers
Prep time: 30 minutes

• 1 pound fresh small mozzarella balls
• 6 ounces sliced prosciutto (cut in half, then folded into squares)
• 1 pint cherry tomatoes, cut in half
• 12 large basil leaves (cut into thirds)
• 36 toothpicks
• Olive oil and balsamic vinegar for drizzling

Thread one mozzarella ball, basil leaf, prosciutto square, and tomato half onto each toothpick. Repeat until all your ingredients are gone!

Drizzle with a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar right before serving.
