Super Bowl Round-Up

You know the drill – you invite several people over for Super Bowl Sunday and can’t wait to socialize…then you end up stuck in the kitchen slaving cooking, while your partner has all the fun. Granted this isn’t a completely fair assessment, since I love being stuck in the kitchen. However, I don’t want to still be cooking when everyone arrives. I want to be in the kitchen…eating.

The way out of this pickle is, of course, to prepare snacks that can be made in advance. Also, fast forward three hours – don’t be stuck in the kitchen…again…this time cleaning. Snacks without utensils is the only way to go. Amen. (My Broccoli Salad is the only exception. And even that can be shoveled in with your fingers. I mean, it is after all, football. There are no manners to speak of.)

BBQ Chicken Drumettes – these will forever be referred to in our house as “little pieces of chicken candy” and no Superbowl party is complete without them.

BBQ Deviled Eggs – what can I say? I like BBQ sauce :D…boil and peel your eggs the day before and these are a snap to whip up before game time.

Bacon Wrapped Jalapenos – oh, PW! I love you. And these. My thighs don’t. But it’s Superbowl Sunday. Who cares about my thighs! Have these prepped before everyone comes over, then pop them in the oven so you can serve them hot.

Broccoli Salad – now my thighs are happier. Think this is a girlie salad? Think again. Fully loaded with awesomeness, I bet even Schwarzenegger would devour this.

Mini Mozzarella and Prosciutto Skewers – you are so pretty. You taste so good. And you’re so wicked easy to assemble. I love you.

Pie Chips with Fruit Salsa – pie chips. Pie. Chips. PIE. CHIPS. Do we even need to mention the lovely fruit salsa?

Mini Chocolate Zucchini Cakes – oh my word. These are…well…you won’t be able to eat just one. Dense. Rich. Heaven sent.

Pretzel Rings – if you were lucky enough to have won the pretzel giveaway or you can locate the rings in your area, these are a must. You can tailor them to your favorite team’s colors…and taunt your friends who are rooting for the other guys *insert evil laugh here*

Now that your food is taken care of, you can go off and enjoy the game. Or the commercials. Or your Wii.

And your friends.

READY… SET…

Just made the jalapenos (used prosciutto) great idea!

I’m so glad! Yay. And good call on the prosciutto – always a great sub for bacon.

How can I fanagle an invite to your place? That food looks outstanding. I’m licking my computer screen as we speak.

I’m going to make those drumettes for dinner tonight, with a vegetable, of course. Let’s see if Milo will eat them. He has decided he hates chicken. I’ll make him think again!

Hey Andrea! Haley hated chicken too. These converted her. She was so fascinated with the bones, and the fact that she could hold them without using a fork was a big sell. They’re also sort of sweet, which most kids like. Read the original post when you have a chance. Hopefully they can bring Milo back :D

This post is making me my mouth water like crazy. I don’t even like football but now I want to pretend to celebrate it so I can make some of those bacon-y jalapeno cheesy things.

Right…football. I keep forgetting there’s an actual sporting event going on Sunday. Zzzzz. Pass the Cheetos!

I actually prefer to eat finger food. Constantly. All the time. Many of these, I see myself eating on a daily basis. Pie chips, for instance. That’s what my life is missing.

It’s so silly to reserve finger food for game day. What rubbish. Who even invented utensils? And everyone’s life is missing those pie chips…

Great recipes for the big game!

I have had all of them – mixed together, as leftovers. Not too bad with a little tobasco.

You totally had me at the pie chips! I’m coming over to your house for the SB!

My mouth is watering. Can I come to your super bowl party instead of cooking for mine? I’m thinking of trying a new jalapeno popper recipe I saw on FoodTV the other day…stuffed with cream cheese, apples and scallions and then wrapped in bacon. I’ll report back, haha

I wish you could! You know, as much I love doing the food, sometimes it is nice to be the guest and not the one doing all the cooking. When my sister hosted Christmas, I was so relaxed…it was nice.

What a great and varied selection, with everything so easy to make or assemble. My mouth is watering once again.

Thanks, Mom. You’ve had the broccoli salad several times. And remember I made the mini chocolate zucchini cakes for Mother’s Day…you ate so many, you were ill ;-)

Please just place a platter of wings and jalapenos in front of me!

Amy February 1, 2011 at 1:14 pm

Hee hee. And I’m anything bacon. So the combo is pretty spectacular.

Those BBQ chicken drummettes are calling my name–or, dare I say, our name. ;)

Love the new look, Amy!

Thanks Amy! Oh goodness, those drummettes…after 100x making them for my family, I finally remembered to make a double batch. Always make a double batch. And for Super Bowl…triple batch. So so good.

WOW. I’m pretty sure if that was my SB spread I wouldn’t bother inviting anyone over – I’d want it all for myself!

Reply

Amy February 1, 2011 at 1:10 pm

Well, I can’t say that I’ll be making ALL of this stuff. Otherwise I will end up stuck in the kitchen…for three days prior.

Glad I just got done eating lunch. Cuz that little homage to noshy food would have made me ravenous otherwise!

What’s funny is, I typed it all up this morning and was so famished by breakfast!
