A Few of My Favorite Things Giveaway

Well, I’d say it’s been a while since I did a giveaway *slaps wrist*…Let’s fix that!

These are just a few of my favorite things (can’t you just hear Julie Andrews singing that? Which naturally makes this giveaway even more fun. No? Indulge me…I’m giving kitchen tools away!) Anyway, as I was saying…

These are just a few of my favorite kitchen tools, but ones I use the most often (not including my wide array of OXO gadgets, which I could never ever live without. Amen.)

First up.

Microplane Zester

No kitchen should be without this. Use it for grating cheese, citrus zest, garlic, fresh nutmeg...even the skin off your knuckles if you're not careful. Okay, so that part is not appealing. But trust me. You need this tool.

Crate and Barrel’s Magnetic Measuring Cups

Love the oblong shape, how they stack, and most importantly how they cling together. I use these so much, they hardly end up in a drawer. Love love love. And you will too.

Crate and Barrel’s Magnetic Measuring Spoons

I love these even more than the measuring cups, if that's possible. They stack, they cling, and their flat bottoms (ya, I know...ha ha) allow them to rest on the counter. But the best part? Each spoon has a double head, one round and one oval, allowing you to measure more than one ingredient without washing spoons in between. Slender ovals slide into small containers like spice jars. Brilliant!!

Williams Sonoma Striped Towel, Set of 4 (Claret color)

Well, you gotta have kitchen towels to clean up that big 'ol mess you just made. I searched long and hard to find a towel that actually soaked up spills or water, instead of just redistributing it all over the countertop. These are the best - soft, sturdy cotton with a basketweave texture. They are highly absorbent and resist shrinking.

Aren’t those great! I hear there’s this holiday coming up…celebrating moms ;-) Perhaps you could give these as a gift. Or you could keep them for yourself. I won’t judge.

The Giveaway
2 (two) lucky readers (1 from the blog and 1 from Facebook) have a chance to win all 4 items.

There are three ways to enter: (1) In the blog comments, tell me what you love about your mother (2) go “like” us on Facebook or (3) Already a fan? Just leave a comment on The Wall.

Want to increase your chances? You can leave a comment here and on Facebook. Sure, why not.

The drawing closes this Friday, April 29th at 8pm EST.

WINNERS – UPDATE ON APRIL 30TH:
Oh my goodness…what a giveaway with over 100 entries! I’m glad I made you work a little for it this time, because the comments about all your mothers were so heart warming. There are some amazing moms out there, for sure.

Here are some of the reasons I love my mom: she is the most selfless person I know, always putting everyone else first without hesitation. She is a phenomenal listener and teacher, only giving input when asked. She recognizes not only that there are two sides to every story, but “until you walk in someone elses shoes,” don’t judge. And my mom has the patience of a saint, I tell ya. She is one of a kind.

As for the winners, Random.org pulled these names: Melissa Brandley and April Corrigan. Super congrats, ladies! Please send me your contact info and mailing address so I can ship out your prizes asap.

Thanks everyone for participating!

I love all the moms (and dads!) who bring their children to swim lessons during the summer. I enjoy watching the looks on their faces when their children make a grand accomplishment. I also enjoy the looks on their faces (horror, terror??) when I take the little student down to the “deep end” of the pool for the first time!
God Bless our Moms!!

I love that my Mother has always had stories to tell me. She has been battling Cancer for 2 1/2 years now, so those stories are even more precious now and I need to record them.

I love my mom’s never-ending encouragement. As a new mom myself, it makes it easier on those hard days when she says I am doing a good job. It’s a like a lift of all spirits knowing my mom supports me.

Ame, I think Mom was ahead of her time. She never compared us. She let each of us grow in the direction we were meant to and never pushed anything on us. She’s always had the patience of a saint and is the best teacher one could ask for. As a young adult, and today, she always listened, asked if I wanted her input rather than just lecturing me (well…most of the time). I could write more, but basically, she’s a great mom and a wonderful person and friend.

My mother is the most wonderful person in the world. She has taught me almost everything I know, especially about cooking and baking. She is a wizard in the kitchen and I’m happy to say that she would never let her daughter not be as well. I can remember her giving me advice (advice that I still use today) and tips on what works best. I couldn’t imagine my life without my mom; cook, baker, best friend, and inspirer! :)

What I loved about my mother………it’s so hard to narrow it down. Bless her heart, she went to be with the angels last Fall. We miss her so much. I suppose what I liked most was her dedication to family, her sense of humor, and she was an awesome cook , who loved her family more than anything in the world. :o)

My mom is wonderful in every way possible! I love that my mom is the most caring person I’ve known but can still come back with some smart quips every now and then that keep you on your toes. I am proud to be her daughter!

My Mom, I miss her every single day. I loved the most the way she loved to laugh. She found the best in everyone and tried to get you to see it too. She worked hard all her life and never complained about the long days. I love you Mom and I miss you!

Oh, my mom. She was as challenging as she was wonderful. She raised 10 of us wild children, taught us all to love art and beauty, sometimes truthfully at the expense of real practicality. But that was her beauty!
When my boys were small I was raising them vegan, she’d sneak them pieces of bacon ~ “Look at those boys, they’re just starving for good quality protein…” :)
I got a friend request last night from a friend of my sisters, telling me how she remembered my mothers parties in the yard for all the neighborhood, her brownies in particular.
Ah, my momma. I miss her.

I’d soak up all the server space if I listed all the things I love about my mom. Let’s just say that if I wind up being half the woman that she is, I will have done exceedingly well for myself.
I’ll always be indebted to her for teaching me to read a recipe, that eating half the cookie dough before it’s baked is perfectly acceptable, and that offering to let someone else lick the beaters is a symbol of great love.

I love that my mother gave me the desire to cook real dinners as often as possible. There were nights we had to grab Chic-fil-A but usually all 6 of us were sitting around the table enjoying dinner and conversation! Learning these values is such a blessing.

My mom was an amazing lady. She taught us to work hard, love the Lord and she kept everything afloat during some very lean times. Miss her!

My Mom is amazing. Not only is she my greatest champion, but when most of her friends are taking bus tours when they go on vacation, my mom takes body surfing lessons.

Mom taught me to cook, and that making mistakes was not the end of the world. True, if it was a truly horrid mistake, you had to throw out the results or be sick, but often you could fix the little things. Also, that winging it often works, once you learn the theory behind it.

She taught me a lot of cooking theory. I work on about five or six wings by now, especially as my husband is a bit picky and I have to adapt almost every food recipie I like.

So much to love about my Mom… she really is the most forgiving person I have ever known. And, she’s like a little angel. She flies here and there helping people when they need it.

P.S. I meant “good at baking” as opposed to “good at cooking.” Neither one of us good cooks.

My mother was good at baking, and so am I. I fondly remember making birthday cakes with her when I was young, and how she’d give me the credit.
