“The dumber it is, the easier it is to make fun of.” – Paul

Of course he’s referring to the latest popular song and video “Royals” by Lorde. He couldn’t resist a parody.

After you’re done watching the original, enjoy his version, Bagels!

And for further amusement, here’s the shot by shot comparison.

Ok, my best friend and I call “Royals” our “poor person” song, but I had never watched the video until just now. Um…what?! Paul’s version, way better. Especially his little butt-wiggle dance and his twitchy face at the end. And the swinging light bagel. Ok, just the whole thing.

Amy @Very Culinary November 7, 2013 at 10:00 pm

I actually had to have Paul explain the song to me. So apparently I’m as dumb as the video.

I told Paul “I can’t ever listen to the originals ever again without hearing your version!” Thank you for sharing it, Milisa. *mwah*

Ok. So, I saw this over my lunch at work, and played the original video on my phone. I swear I thought that they were saying something about green beans, and all I could think was, “Man. Our grandparents thought that “I want to hold your hand” (and all Beatles songs) were of the devil and made no sense. If they could only hear this song”. However, I came home tonight and listened on my computer and don’t know where I got green beans from. Not that I think that the song makes a lot more sense, but whatever. I must have been hungry. I like Paul’s version a lot more. Jerry was quite excited when I told him that you guys were making another parody. Oh, yeah. :)

After we saw the original video for the first time, I said to Paul, “They must have been on a really strict budget.” Lol.

Green Beans. Haha. Maybe Paul could do a sequel…

It’s similar to the “wrapped up like a deuce, you know…” that we all thought was douce. Or, the Enya song that my brother and I insist says underwear. That made our girls crazy. You know that you are ok making these videos until your kids hit about 10-12 years old. Then, their lives will be made miserable (in their words) because of the videos. On another note, Jerry thinks we should make one (which would make Stephie’s life miserable). lol

Oh, Paul has to do several takes sometimes because he can’t stop laughing. Or I’m laughing, which makes him laugh…that’s more the case. Thank you, Steph!! <3

I guess I’m too old to appreciate the original video…..can’t believe what they produce today! The spoof, however, gave me another chuckle. I watched all versions and loved the side by side. Great editing, too.

Reply

Amy @Very Culinary November 7, 2013 at 1:11 pm

No, there’s nothing to appreciate. The original is stupid, that was the point of making fun of it! They must have had a low budget. Lol.

Sherry November 7, 2013 at 12:37 pm

As a music-ie (reference foodie), I am not ashamed too admit I like the song “Royals.” When it comes on the radio I never change the channel. From here forward, I will never not think of this parody when I listen to the girls sing their version. Perhaps it’s the kookiness of the original that makes it so ripe for kookier fun. Love ‘em both.
P.S. I might love bagels only slightly less than I love music. This gives the parody a slight edge.

Amy @Very Culinary November 7, 2013 at 12:44 pm

Greetings Sheri! To be clear, we think the video is stupid, not the song…the song does stick with you, for sure. Also? A lot of people said after Paul did the parody to JT’s Suit and Tie, they could never hear the original in their heads again. So, you’re welcome…or I’m sorry!

Sherry November 7, 2013 at 3:25 pm

Now I know why I stopped watching music videos years ago–they almost always taint my enjoyment of the song I knew from a purely aural experience. After reading your response I watched the Lorde video–how inane, annoying; possibly nauseating. Now I will tape the song and only listen while watching bagels.

I swear you guys should move to Hollywood! Especially like the line “You can call me Master Lox” ~ your marriage will last forever, you know. You two really are a perfectly matched pair! LOVE IT!

Have a good weekend, and if I don’t see you before then, have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Amy!
