In Loving Memory of Toby Winning-Radke (1994-2009)
He was adorable, sweet, and incredibly bright. And he will be missed deeply.

Pumpkin Dog Biscuits
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup pumpkin, canned
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
4 tablespoons Crisco
1 whole egg
1/2 cup buttermilk
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Combine flour, cinnamon and nutmeg and cut in shortening. Beat egg with milk and pumpkin and combine with flour, mixing well. Stir until soft dough forms.
Drop by tablespoons onto ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Let cool completely and serve.
Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits
1 1/2 cups water
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup applesauce
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1/3 cup peanut butter (crunchy works great)
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
3/4 cup regular flour
1 cup cornmeal
3/4 cup oats
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Mix liquid ingredients together well. Combine the dry ingredients in another bowl. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients bowl and mix thoroughly until smooth.
Roll into a ball; place ball on floured surface. Roll out to 1/2″ thickness. Cut into desired shapes. Place on ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake for 20 minutes; turn off the oven and leave the biscuits in there for one hour to harden.

Oh no, Amy. Toby is your dog? I am so sorry for your loss.
I have dogs myself. They bring something to our lives that nobody else can. My sincere condolences.
I am so so sorry. How sad. Hang in there…time heals.
Thanks everyone, so much, for the warm thoughts. Toby was/is my sister’s Miniature Schnauzer. She had to make the hardest decision of her life yesterday and it is a difficult time. We are all extremely sad.
Very very sad. Losing a pet is such an awful experience. If she has young kids that need an explanation, that will make it even harder.
This is a nice post. I mean, a nice and clever way to pay tribute to a dog. I must say, the recipes sound good enough for people too.
My condolences to your sister et al.
I’m going to make the pumpkin biscuits for my dog this weekend, in honor of Toby!
Ame, thank you so much for this tribute. So incredible. Thoughtful, sweet, and wonderful. So many tears. So much love.
Even after they are gone, our pets hold a special place in our hearts. They became family members and brought so much to our lives. Toby will be missed by all those who knew him.
Jen – Sorry to hear about Toby. I know that little guy lived a long, sweet life. Our household will celebrate him this weekend with one of the biscuit recipes. xxoo. J
