Isn’t that the hardest question EVER?

I love so many different cuisines. How could I ever live without Italian? I mean, swear off pasta…it makes me twitch just thinking about it. Or American – no more grilled cheese sandwiches? Talk to the hand. What about Indian Naan? Greek Gryos? Mexican tacos? The French and their butter? Oh my gosh, my head hurts.

But honestly, when it comes down to it, it’s unimaginable to go through life without the variety of Asian food: Chinese pork ribs, sushi, shrimp fried rice, or Pad Thai. Sigh. (I may change my mind tomorrow, depending on what I’m eating, but for now, that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.)

So. If you had to choose only one cuisine for the rest of your life, which would it be?

I think Weird Al Yankovic is a genius. I do. And if The Backstreet Boys were still together I would totally take Haley to see them perform. Totally. The movie Zoolander? It makes me laugh-out-loud every single time I watch it. Oh, and I like Bologna.

Whew.

It feels good to get that off my chest.

Are you still with me, or did I scare you off with the Bologna?

Guilty pleasures, some might say. Maybe. But they all make me feel good. And they’re not illegal.

Oreos and milk make me feel good, too. But I take it to the next level. Times ten.

I place as many broken up Oreos (or in most cases, the Target generic brand) as I can fit in a glass, pour milk over them, wait about 15 seconds, mash it all gently with a spoon, and eat it like soup. I call it Oreo Smash. (I remember telling Paul about it when we first met – I swear he wanted to marry me right then and there.)

What’s your guilty pleasure meal or snack? Chocolate Syrup and Cool Whip mixed together? Grapes smothered with peanut butter? Chili with corn nuts? An entire bag of Ruffles in one sitting?

Come on, fess up.

It’s full steam ahead for our move next week. As our household purging continues, I am reminded that I’m really not that sentimental when it comes to “stuff.” I cannot relate to hoarders. First, I hate clutter. HATE. I’m a minimalist. Second, I try to live by a general rule that my wise Mom once said to me, “If you haven’t used it in two years, you’re not going to.” It’s true.

I do, however, cling to so many of my kitchen appliances which have collected dust, cookbooks I haven’t opened in eons, utensils where their function eludes me, and an apron that I have never worn once.

Got me thinking – if my house caught fire and I only had time to save one item from my kitchen/pantry, what would it be? (Keeping in mind, I could be risking serious injury or death, here.)

It was challenging for me, since I cook almost every night and find ALL my kitchen accessories vital. But, if I had to choose just one thing, it would have to be my nonstick-12 inch-deep sauté pan. I rely on it for 85% of the dishes I make.

Funny thing is, the original owner was Paul. Along with a toothbrush and chair, it was the only other physical item he brought to the relationship when we moved in together. Personally, I think it sealed the deal. The man knows good cookware…even if he did use it as a large paperweight.

What item would you save? It can be anything – spices, a spatula, a chip-clip.

Discuss.

All signs are pointing toward dishing about cereal.

First, while Haley was in the hospital, it’s one of the only things she would eat.

Second, my friend John’s fairly recent Facebook status read, “mixing three different cereals into one bowl for breakfast. I’m such a grain gourmet in the morning.”

Third, I came across The Cereal Project, an online database of U.S. cereals. Hoo ah.

Since we’ve had to tighten the reigns on our food budget, one of the items that has been hit the hardest is the amount of boxed cereal I buy. Not meat, not cheese, not snacks. Nope. Cereal! Seeing how much it costs these days, you can clearly understand why it’s one of the first to get the axe.

But I love cereal.

I love cereal because it’s easy, it’s filling, and requires no cooking. I can actually recall the first few months after Haley was born, eating cereal not only for breakfast, but also lunch and dinner. Standing up, of course.

And I’m not picky. I love all kinds with milk or just in the palm of my hand to snack on. I love granola on top of yogurt. I love corn flakes mashed up and used as breadcrumbs. I love healthy bran flakes, and yes, I love the sugar laden variety that makes gashes in the roof of my mouth.

I love cereal. It rocks.

…I’m eating a bowl right now.

What about you? Thumbs up or thumbs down for cereal?
